The step between the terminal and the final delivery
A great deal of import freight should not go straight from the terminal to the consignee. The delivery appointment is four days out, one container is going to six destinations, or the cargo has to stay at temperature while it waits. Azzurro Final Mile Logistics coordinates that middle step in New Jersey, minutes from Port Newark, Port Elizabeth and EWR.
These services are coordinated through qualified New Jersey warehouse and cold-storage partners. Azzurro does not own the facilities — what we provide is one accountable operations contact who arranges the space, the handling and the onward transportation so you are not managing a warehouse, a drayage carrier and a delivery carrier separately.

Freight we coordinate storage for
The facilities we work with regularly handle cargo arriving from Port Newark and Port Elizabeth and air freight recovered at JFK and EWR. Typical commodities include pharmaceuticals, perishables and produce, chocolate and confectionery, chilled and frozen food, and general foodstuffs.
Inventory, handling and documentation requirements are confirmed per shipment. Temperature requirements are coordinated according to the customer's written handling instructions, and monitoring and documentation options depend on the facility and equipment used for that particular consignment.
Geographic coverage
Our coordinated partner space sits in the North Jersey industrial corridor around Newark, Elizabeth, Linden, Carteret, Rahway, Edison and Secaucus — close enough to the terminals that a devanned container can go out for delivery the same day when the appointment allows. Onward delivery runs throughout New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and nationwide.
Equipment for the onward legs
Once freight is cross-docked, it leaves on whatever the destination requires: refrigerated box trucks and sprinter vans for tri-state and city deliveries, or refrigerated and dry-van full truckloads for inland moves.
Why importers use this step
Three reasons come up repeatedly. It stops demurrage and per-diem from accumulating while a consignee's appointment calendar catches up. It lets one container serve multiple destinations without paying for multiple drayage moves. And it protects temperature-sensitive cargo that arrives overnight and cannot be delivered until the following morning.

Frequently asked questions
Does Azzurro own the cold-storage facility?
No. Azzurro Final Mile Logistics coordinates these services through qualified New Jersey warehouse and cold-storage partners. We manage the arrangement and the onward transportation as one accountable contact.
How long can freight be stored?
The facilities we coordinate with are best suited to short-term storage and appointment staging rather than long-term warehousing. Tell us the expected duration and we will confirm what is workable.
Can you devan a refrigerated container?
Yes. Container devanning including refrigerated boxes is coordinated through partner facilities, with pallet transfer to temperature-controlled equipment for the onward leg.
Can one container be split across multiple deliveries?
Yes. Deconsolidation and cross-docking let a single container serve several destinations without paying for repeated drayage moves.
Is temperature monitored while freight is stored?
Monitoring and documentation depend on the facility and the requirements of the shipment. We confirm the available capability against your handling instructions before the freight arrives.
